A mission associated with Vine Bible Fellowship, Cleveland, OH Abandoned Children Current population of India is over 1 billion of which over 500 million are children. In 2007, there were more than 11 million abandoned children in India. Ninety percent of the abandoned babies are female. Babies are abandoned in hospitals, labor rooms, by roadside, markets, fields, temples and in front of church buildings, convents, orphanages (larger numbers are abandoned here), in bus and train stations, under the seats of rail cars, trash bins and on garbage dumps. Often babies are injured and wrapped in plastic sheets. Some die of exposure. Many die before they are found. Only a few children are rescued. Some children are abandoned to die or survive by them selves in the streets by scavenging for food in restaurant trash bins. Most of them sleep on sidewalks, railway flat forms or where ever a place is found. A few kids beg. Some children commit suicide to escape from misery and abuse or resort to child labor. From the streets, some children especially girls would be kidnapped by international child traffickers and are sold abroad to wealthy where they end up as servants or in red light districts and forced in to prostitution.
Missing Children According to reports, around 45,000 children in India go missing every year. These kids are kidnapped, stolen or lured by evil elements for gainful purpose. Compounding the Indian problem, there is an annual influx of about 10,000 children trafficked from Nepal and Bangladesh into India. Most of them are girls trafficked to red light districts in large cities and forced into flesh trade or to work at homes and factories, or pushed into begging, drug peddling and even into illegal organ trade. India is a major source and destination for trafficked children and it is estimated that there are about three to five hundred thousand female children working in the red light districts. There is no escape for these girls from here.
The ultimate fate of the Abandoned and Missing Children that are not rescued 1. The children are trafficked to Bombay and from here to Persian Gulf countries and others by the international traffickers. 2. Girls are used in Flesh Trade in major cities, e.g. in Red Light districts of Bombay and Calcutta. 3. Beggar Mafia (Begging Racket) In cities beggar mafia is another menace with children absorbed through abduction for begging. 4. Children are sold to barren couple. There are illegal agencies that sell children for huge amounts of money in the name of adoption. 5. Children are subjected to child labor. Children are forced to work by wicked elements at homes as domestics, restaurants, hotels and factories. As Christians we can offer these destitute children a chance to live with dignity and know the love of Christ. The Lord commanded us to love our neighbor. Who is our neighbor? One who is in need is our neighbor. We may not have to go abroad as missionaries but we can support the missions for children abroad such as this. Our desire is to assist in an orphanage building project in India.
Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world (James 1:27). MISSION Lord’s Nest’s mission is to extend and reflect the love and compassion of the Lord Jesus Christ to the least of the children in India by offering a chance to live with human dignity.
